Finally Home.

The following three days were spent moving the organ components into secure storage at the Broward Center. Much hard work was now ahead of our heros and the hardy souls of the South Florida Theatre Organ Society (SFTOS). They were about to become aware of the magnitude of the tasks that they had gotten themselves into.
WurliTzer Opus 1623 was now officially the legal property of the SFTOS and they were now charged with design, engineering, restoration and fundraising before installation could begin. As part of these obligations, SFTOS began to assemble a portfolio of documents that would enable them to proceed. From noted theatre designer, Joseph DuciBella, came a contemporary design for pipe chamber facade pipes. Utilizing that design, SFTOS member Dennis Wilhelm was able to generate a full color computer rendering .
A pipe organ consultant's report on the situation was authored by Jeff Weiler of Witchita, Kansas. Following a thorough site inspection and examination of the disassembled piles of organ parts, Mr. Weiler 's report concluded, " The theatre and this organ are IDEALLY suited for each other."
The Broward Center's CEO and President, Mark Nerenhausen, receieved the consultant's report and presented it to the center's Board of Directors, along with the design studies for the pipe chambers. Following a presentation by SFTOS Vice President Michael Kinerk, at their June 3rd meeting, the Board formally approved, in concept, the WurliTzer installation project.
Presently, restoration of the instrument is ongoing. Architectural detail
drawings are being compiled and fundraising has begun in earnest.

Because the Amaturo theatre is the home of the county school board's
award winning "Student Enrichment in Arts and Sciences" programs, it is foreseen that this installation of Opus 1623 will enable many who have never heard Theatre Pipe Organ to experience the sounds for the first time. User groups of the theatre have expressed an overwhelming desire to utilize the WurliTzer in their presentations.
With the continuing help of our friends, both old ones and new, we will provide the audiences of South Florida with a musical and cultural heritage for many years to come. Thank You for your attention and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Design work is underway, as is fund raising. At this point, patients is a virtue. Interested parties may obtain further information by contacting Bruce Hannover at BruceH8552@AOL.com .... or by clicking here.
